How Homœopathy Was Born

In the late 18th century, German physician and chemist Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843) became deeply disillusioned with the brutal practices of his time—bloodletting, leeches, toxic mercury treatments. Rather than harm his patients, he stopped practising and supported his large family by translating medical texts.
While translating Cullen’s Materia Medica in 1790, he read that cinchona bark cured malaria because of its “bitter, astringent” properties. Hahnemann knew this explanation was inadequate. He ingested the bark himself and—to his surprise—developed an intermittent fever with chills—symptoms remarkably similar to malaria. This single experiment sparked decades of research on healthy volunteers, leading to the discovery of the Law of Similars and the development of the system he termed Homœopathy.
He first used the term in print in 1796 and formally introduced the full system in 1810 with the first edition of the Organon of the Healing Art (later editions titled Organon of Medicine). The groundbreaking 6th edition was only published decades after his death.
It’s Not Herbal. It’s Not Naturopathy.
Herbal medicine uses plants in crude or concentrated form based on traditional knowledge of their direct physiological effects.
Naturopathic medicine combines many natural therapies (herbs, nutrition, hydrotherapy, lifestyle) and often diagnoses and treats named diseases.
Functional Medicine looks for root causes through lab testing and corrects imbalances with supplements and diet.
Holistic health is a broad philosophy, not a specific system.
Homœopathy is unique: it is a complete therapeutic system governed by four clear principles and uses only potentised remedies selected on the totality of the individual’s symptoms.
(Note: In the United States, homœopathic remedies are legally recognized as drugs and regulated by the FDA under the HPUS—unlike herbs and supplements.)
Think of it this way:
Herbal / Functional / Supplements: give the body a physical substance
Homœopathy: gives the vital force pure information so the body can heal from within
Homœopathy is the only system that uses the smallest and most minimal, dynamised doses chosen for your unique symphony of symptoms — not your diagnosis label.
A Brief History of Remarkable Success
Epidemics Don’t Lie—History Shouted the Results
For over 230 years, Homœopathy has been used worldwide with extraordinary results, especially during epidemics when conventional medicine had nothing but bloodletting or toxic substances to offer, Homœopathy delivered:
- 1830–32 Cholera (Europe): 7–11% vs. 31–63%
- 1854 Cholera (London): 16.4% vs. 59.2%
- 1878 Yellow Fever (New Orleans): 5.6% vs. 17%
- 1918 Spanish Flu (Pittsburgh): 1.05% vs. 30%
- 2007 Leptospirosis (Cuba): nationwide prevention using homœopathy protected 2.3 million people
These are just a few documented examples among many.
